Key Responsibilities
As a General Hand at Tōrea Orchard, you’ll play a vital role in establishing and maintaining our apple orchard. Your duties will include:
- Orchard Trellis Structure Installation: Setting up cabling, wiring, and systems to support tree growth.
- Planting: Handling and securing young trees into position.
- Tree Painting: Protecting tree bases from animal damage.
- Dripline Clipping and Installation: Running and clipping driplines to wires and fitting connections.
- Netting Installation: Safeguarding crops from adverse weather conditions.
- Tree Training & Fruit Thinning: Enhancing fruit quality and protecting tree structure.
- Pruning: Maintaining tree health and productivity.
- Machinery Operation: Operating orchard machinery like hydraladas, tractors, and diggers (training provided).
- Health and Safety Compliance: Adhering to strict safety protocols for a secure work environment.
- General Orchard Tasks: Performing additional tasks as directed by supervisors and management.

- Physical Capability: Ability to perform outdoor labor in all weather conditions.

- Team Player: Ability to follow instructions and collaborate effectively with others.
- Experience: Previous orchard or horticulture experience is a bonus but not essential—full training provided.
- Eligibility: Must be in New Zealand with a valid work visa for the full contract period.
- Driver’s License: A current New Zealand driver’s license is preferred.
- Health and Safety: Willingness to undergo pre-employment drug and alcohol screening.
