Key Responsibilities

As a General Hand at Tōrea Orchard, you’ll play a vital role in establishing and maintaining our apple orchard. Your duties will include:

  • Orchard Trellis Structure Installation: Setting up cabling, wiring, and systems to support tree growth.
  • Planting: Handling and securing young trees into position.
  • Tree Painting: Protecting tree bases from animal damage.
  • Dripline Clipping and Installation: Running and clipping driplines to wires and fitting connections.
  • Netting Installation: Safeguarding crops from adverse weather conditions.
  • Tree Training & Fruit Thinning: Enhancing fruit quality and protecting tree structure.
  • Pruning: Maintaining tree health and productivity.
  • Machinery Operation: Operating orchard machinery like hydraladas, tractors, and diggers (training provided).
  • Health and Safety Compliance: Adhering to strict safety protocols for a secure work environment.
  • General Orchard Tasks: Performing additional tasks as directed by supervisors and management.
