About the Role
University College Birmingham is seeking a dedicated and skilled Construction Technician to join our team. This is an exciting opportunity for someone with practical skills, strong communication abilities, and a passion for working in a dynamic educational environment.

As part of the School of Engineering, Digital and Sustainable Construction, you will play a key role in maintaining our carpentry, brickwork, plumbing, and electrical workshops to an exceptional standard. You will work alongside lecturers and senior staff to ensure our students have access to top-quality facilities and resources.

This role also supports the development of our state-of-the-art Retrofit Centre for Sustainable Construction, a multi-million-pound project designed to provide cutting-edge learning spaces right in the heart of Birmingham.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain and prepare workshop areas for carpentry and other construction trades.

  • Support teaching staff with the setup of tools, machinery, and learning materials.

  • Ensure health and safety standards are met at all times.

  • Assist with the upkeep of equipment to ensure smooth operation during classes.

  • Contribute to delivering outstanding student experiences across Levels 1–3 trade courses.

  • A practical, hands-on approach to work with excellent problem-solving skills.

  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Good communication skills to work effectively with students and colleagues.

  • Experience in carpentry or other skilled construction trades.
